Sometimes I log onto my computer and check my website stats or my analytics and I get upset. I see all these Pinterest posts with links to blogs on how to make a little extra money or increase page views and I do all that and still I struggle with low page views. It seems like every blog I go and look at is either a craft blog, a food blog, or a lifestyle blog run by a super mom (I say super mom because you are one if you can care for a child and run a blog full time). It makes me feel discouraged when I also see other blogs run by people around my age who are successful. What am I doing wrong? Here are some of the struggles of being a young blogger that I have seen over the past few months.
If you're not a mom, its harder.
I have discovered that moms like to read what other moms have to say about being moms, and how to improve themselves as a mom. With that being said, being only 19 years old, I am not a mother. Yes, I do want kids in the future and I want to be a mom by the time i’m at least 25 years old, but right now I’m not. How do you appeal to an audience of moms when you’re not a mom?
Try to write about things that their kids might be watching or reading. For example, I try to write about pop culture events and movies and books that will appeal to everyone. I try to write about popular things, like Marvel movies and some TV shows that I think other people might enjoy. So if we reference my Age of Ultron review for a second, a thing I can add it to that is if the movie is kid-safe or not, and what the age range should be for kids who go to see it. That way, mom can have an idea on whether or not her child should go see the movie or not.
I'm young, no one will listen to me.
While this may be true, it’s also not. There are bloggers out there who are college students and teens. They range from life style blogging to book blogging and they are all very successful – even at a younger age than most bloggers. I’ve felt that even though I do get a small amount of readers to my blog, no one listens to me (I feel this way because of lack of comments I get). How do you get people to listen to you, even if you’re young?
Shown them that you mean business. Start to monetize your blog, place ads on your sidebars, and most importantly follow a post schedule. This will show everybody that you’re in a rhythm and pace to your blog and you are 100% serious about keeping your blog going and maybe even turning it into a business.
