Sherlock Series 4 Thoughts

Since the day it was announced that Sherlock was getting a fourth season, the world was on edge waiting. First we had to wait two years for a special. Then we had to wait another whole year for a full season. By god, was it worth the wait. Sherlock season 4 had us on the edge of our seats every minute of all three episodes.

We were warned back at the first table read that it was going to be a heart breaking season. We were warned that the scripts moved the cast the to tears. I know that I was on the edge of my seat wanting more at the end of every episode. Without further ado, here are my Sherlock Series 4 Thoughts below the cut.

There may be spoilers. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you’re from the U.S, you can watch every episode online at PBS.org under the Masterpiece collection.

Firstly, let’s talk about the first episode.

We all knew that the first episode was going to be a little bit of an adjustment episode. John and Mary were going to have their baby in that episode and we knew it would not only be an adjustment for them as new parents but an adjustment for Sherlock who well, isn’t really that good with people let alone babies and children. Firstly, I was surprised to see Sherlock interacting with little Rosie mid-way through the episode. Secondly, I was spoiled as to the big thing that happened at the end of the episode thanks to Amanda Abbington’s twitter.  The entire episode I was just on edge as to when it was going to happen and when it did, my heart broke into two pieces for poor John and little Rosie (WHO ISN’T EVEN GOING TO REMEMBER HER MOM). My heart broke once more in the end when Sherlock tried to go help John and Molly told him that he didn’t want the help.

My heart. It aches. Moving on to episode 2.

This episode was designed to make you think a bit. At least that’s what I think seeing as I was thinking a LOT of different things during this episode. It really trips you out, you see Sherlock hitting rock bottom and John is totally against him. It makes you want to put your hands through the TV and wring John’s neck. I wanted to scream at him and be “WHY CAN’T YOU JUST HELP SHERLOCK AND HELP YOURSELF YOU IDIOT?!” It was an episode that made me want to hug Sherlock and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought nothing could top that episode, especially the ending.

Oh boy was I wrong. Onto the finale.

Since the end of season 3, we knew that there was a third Holmes. You hear mention of the ‘other one’ at the end of it, so you know its coming, you’re just not expecting it to be a SISTER. I knew that I was blown away by finding out the missing Holmes was a girl. I’m going to try not to give away to much about this episode because it was just awesome and something you have to experience for yourself. But the Holmes sister is someone who is the craziest character you will ever see on TV, she pushes Sherlock, Mycroft, and John to their limits and helps to build the relationship of them all even further.

Overall, this season was fantastic. Just when you think they can’t get any better, they do. There is talk that they aren’t going to continue after this, and I can see why they wouldn’t. They really tied it all up at the end of the episode with a little bow, like they did wrap up the show. Experience it for yourself and just watch the damn thing.
